Trager Fundamentals, Resistance and Release Work, and the Gamma Motor System Treating the Neck and Jaw Class Description: Deane Juhan became one of Dr. Milton Trager’s initial students and studied personally ...
Class Description: Deane Juhan became one of Dr. Milton Trager’s initial students and studied personally with him for 24 years until his death in 1992. Since 2000 he has been developing his own innovative addition to the Trager Approach, Resistance and Release Work.
Resistance and Release Work is a process of isolating simple movements in order to bring into conscious awareness the kaleidoscopic interplay of each muscle and connective tissue’s four operations (contracting, lengthening, stabilizing, and remaining still), and sort out the details of each of them in order to more fully control their coordination. The manipulations are simple and easy to learn, and astonishingly rapid in their results.
Slides, lecture and discussion will be utilized to present a clear understanding of the ways in which the gamma system—together with other parts of the nervous system—forms the basis of all muscular patterning. This understanding dramatically enhances the intentions and effectiveness of virtually any practice that has to do with muscular habits and movement patterns. It is directly applicable to all bodywork modalities that deal with trauma, pain management, rehabilitation, improved range of motion, enhanced performance, and the development of more effective habits of both muscles and mind.
Practitioners of many kinds will find these tools to be a dynamic and useful addition to their own modalities. Deane Juhan’s students have included massage therapists, yoga instructors, physical therapists, practitioners of Crania-Sacral, Orthobionomy, Feldenkrais, Alexander Technique, various deep-tissue approaches, chiropractic and movement education.
